Bringing matcha and yoga together

We were delighted to be exhibiting at the OM Yoga show in London last weekend. Having a presence at such a high profile and well attended Yoga show was important to OMGTEA due to its amazing relevance for yoga and meditation practices.

Few people know that Matcha was introduced into Japanese culture over 800 years ago by the Zen Buddhist monks who used it to help their meditation and we love the fact that they still drink it for the same reasons to this day. Samurais also got a taste for it not long after, sipping it before battles for increased endurance and focus.

Both yoga and meditation can definitely help us to become more wakeful and mindful during the day and drinking a cup of Matcha before both really does “jumpstart” a session like nothing else. You will feel more at ease, less jittery and able to concentrate better not to mention more energised.

In no small part the explanation of Matcha’s role in this enhanced state of mind is the very high concentration of the amino acid called L-theanine, which has been shown to reduce physiological and psychological stresses. L-theanine also improves cognition and mood in a synergistic manner with caffeine and promotes alpha wave production in the brain. This is also pretty much what meditation does. We like to think of matcha as “liquid meditation.”
